Impressions from Global Distribution Summit in London

Back in the hotel from day one of the Travel Distribution Summit in London. The focus of the event clearly lay on the panels and conferences that went on all day from 9am to 6pm. For zanox, the series of online travel conferences was the obvious choice, and I had the chance to listen to amazing presentations and heated discussions between online travel heavy weight players like Ryanair, easyJet, Skyscanner, Datalex and Hilton.

zanox seized the opportuntiy to present a workshop about co-opetition (competition+cooperation) scenarios in Online-Travel, comparing the business models of suppliers like airlines and tour operators, intermediaries like online travel agents and publishers like travel price comparison sites.

Unfortunately I missed the Travel’s Dragon’s Den final in the afternoon where four travel entrepreneurs pitched their business plans to a group of VC investors live on stage – a bit like Pop Idol, but with suit and tie.

Day one of the Travel Distribution summit ended with us taking a couple of publishers and advertisers to a nearby bar and finish the day off with some pints of lager – zanox-style. Looking forward to tomorrow!
