App of the week: Joomla plug in

Posted by Francesco in Application Store, Web Services Contest, November 2nd, 2009

The ‘App of the week’ blog series continues. This week we are going to give you more insight of the Joomla zanox plug in application.

We decided to talk about this to complete the topic of monetization of Blogs and CMS platforms.

What is Joomla: Joomla is a dynamic portal engine and Content management system. Like zanox they fully embrace themself in the concept of  “opening” their core business in order to let third parties offer services and plugins to their customers.

Last week we received a joomla plugin from an external developer.

joomla-plugin

The plugin uses a simple zanox product search using a Joomla article’s keywords and displays the result below or above the joomla article. The products are shown in a “carousel” widget using the JavaScript library “glow”.

To install it is really easy! You simply have to download the source code and install it into your Joomla CMS, insert your connectID (you will receive this automatically via email by zanox) and choose your sales region. The Plug in will then automatically display ads relevant to each article you write.

If instead of the full plugin you simply want to use simply Joomla JCollection component than you can use instead this application provided by the same developer.

Hope you enjoy our ‘App of the week’ series!

Your zanox Web Services Team

dealunited: first SasS application after the launch of the zanox Application Store

Posted by Francesco in Application Store Contest, Showcases, Web Services Contest, July 9th, 2009

A month after the launch of the zanox Application Store dealunited is launching the first service fully implemented on zanox Connect for our advertisers.

dealunited

The service is targeted to advertisers to let them properly convert traffic and earn money and reach in new ways.

This is their promise:

“Convert your lost traffic! Increase your revenue instantly! – The pan-European monetization tool for Zanox advertisers and publishers Problem: On average, only two percent of the visitors of an online shop end up buying. Therefore, a huge revenue potential gets lost. deal united helps you to rescue this lost revenue by showing unique offers to your non-buying users. Not even a loaded shopping cart is a guarantee for a successful purchase: around 70% of shoppers that load a shopping cart drop out or leave the process before buying. Typical deal united Merchants are e-commerce sites, software manufacturers, online-gaming sites, communities and many more. All of them use deal united to convert lost traffic. This results in low conversion rates and potential customers lost forever.

*Solution: * If the user cancels the process, a deal united message appears: “Get it for free if you buy at one of our partners”. If the user is interested, he will see offers from several advertising partners: clothing, toys, computer accessories, telecom, flowers, and so on. The advertiser will pay for the free product. Become one of hundreds of deal united partners and test the service with no risk (no setup cost, no fixed cost)! “

The service is provided for free in the zanox Application Store and can be used also by publishers and price comparison sites.

Posted by Sebastian Wallroth in Application Store Contest, Events, Web Services Contest, March 26th, 2009

With an overwhelming event the 1 Mio EUR zanox Web Service Contest 2008 came to an end. More than 250 people met under the motto “Internet Republic Germany – entrepreneurs and politicians focus on the internet as a critical success factor” at the zanox GAP Campus. Andreas Thümmler, Corporate Finance Partners, handed over (symbolic) an 1 Mio Euro attaché case to contest winners representative Christian Sauer, Webtrekk.

“We will use the capital to make further improvements to our products, and in particular for the globalisation of our core product, Webtrekk Q3”, Webtrekk founder and Chief Executive Christian Sauer said.

ZANOX CEO Thomas Hessler announced a follower of the successful “1 Mio EUR zanox Web Service Contest 2008”, the “2 Mio $ zanox Application Store Contest”, that will be started at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, March 31 – April 3, 2009.

“After receiving so many impressive entries for our first contest last Autumn, zanox and our partners are keen to give start-ups a second opportunity to successfully monetize their business models with zanox Web Services,” said Thomas Hessler, CEO and founder of zanox. “With the current state of the worldwide economy, it’s become increasingly difficult for many of these companies to secure follow-up financing for their projects – this is where we would like to help.”

The ceremony event was also hosted by the leader of the German liberal Free Democratic Party, Guido Westerwelle, as a guest speaker.

Thanks to all for coming. All the other can get some impression through the huge bloggers echo, the event tweets and the flickr gallery. Stay tuned for more information to come about the new contest in this blog.

1 Mio EUR Contest Finalists: iliketotallyloveit.com

Posted by Sebastian Wallroth in Web Services Contest, October 30th, 2008

We want to introduce the finalists of the 1 Million Euro zanox Web Services Contest 2008 to the public. They made it out of ca. 150 to be invited to present their business model at the Finale of the 1 Mio EUR zanox Web Services Contest 2008.

iliketotallyloveit.com is an online social shopping community where users submit and vote for products that they ‘like totally love’ while simultaneously helping people discover exceptional stuff. Included with every item is a link to an online shop where it can be purchased. The more people vote for a product, the greater opportunity it has to advance to the homepage and be exposed to even more visitors. It is a popularity contest within the community.

Consumers want an entertaining online equivalent to recreate their offline shopping experience of window shopping, relaxed browsing, and discovery. Consumers want to know what real people love, not what marketers want them to love. That is exactly what they try to offer. They let the people vote!

What makes them better than the competition?

They don’t follow trends or let marketers fool our users—they showcase trends live as they happen and are very transparent. Many other services are cluttered with useless features that have nothing to do with shopping. They try to be everything for everyone while iliketotallyloveit.com comes in a clean, no-frills, no-brainer package. Our site is straight to the point and very easy to understand. It’s social voting for products.

In one sentence: iliketotallyloveit.com – Extraordinary propaganda for extraordinary products.
