New Seasonal Opportunity – Singles Day

Posted by sarah.ruzgar in Weekly Tips, October 31st, 2016

Have you heard of Singles Day? The antithesis of Valentine’s Day, it originated in China as a day for people who are single, and is celebrated on 11th November (11/11), as the ‘ones’ in this date represent singles. From a consumer perspective, it is promoted as a time to treat yourself and purchase items on your wish list.

In 2009, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba began to capitalise on the event by launching a huge marketing campaign for its “Double 11”deals. Singles Day last year generated a record $14.3billion sales in just 24 hours, beating Black Friday and making it the largest online shopping day of the year. Therefore Alibaba is credited with transforming Singles Day from a national celebration of singlehood, to an increasing global shopping event. (more…)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, there’s little chance that you haven’t heard of Pokémon Go. Just in case, Pokémon Go is an app that allows you to find and catch Pokémon (pocket monsters) anywhere – whether that be in your home, walking down the street, in your park or even in your office. Snapchat is the fastest growing social network, growing to 100 million daily active users in just four years. However, last week Instagram launched their new Stories feature, an unashamedly similar feature to Snapchat Stories, as both allow users to post photos and videos sequentially, and are available to view for 24 hours.

The key differences between the two? Instagram Stories is more user-friendly and provides instant access to the stories of the people you follow, making it easier for content creators and brands to share and display stories to their followers. That’s not to say that Snapchat should throw in the towel – one of the app’s most popular features are their humorous filters which can alter the face of the user, make them look more attractive and even swap faces with others. Snapchat is also hugely popular with the teenage demographic, who make up 86% of their user base and may prefer to remain on the more network that has yet to be adopted by their parents. (more…)

Next to good performance, transparency and quality are some of the most commonly named qualities advertisers are looking for in their affiliate programme partners.
